Camino Itinerary (38km route)

Day 0: Arrival at De Stoep

Meet fellow pilgrims and settle into the farm stay. Arrive anytime after 4pm and before dark.

Day 1: De Stoep ➝ Sandvlei (14km)

The route follows flat farm roads along the Berg River, passing canola fields and seasonal crops, with the wheat fields at their fullest in September- a time when ‘miggies’ (gnats) are common, so bug spray is recommended. Isobel Hanekom, your host, has renovated a school built by her father-in-law, Melt Hanekom, in 1970, into comfortable pilgrim accommodation.

Day 2: Sandvlei ➝ Nuwefontein (16km)

The mostly flat gravel route passes through private farms. Nuwefontein Farm offers pilgrim accommodation in converted stable blocks with private and shared rooms.

Day 3: Nuwefontein Circular Route (10km)

Explore the seventh generation owned farm of the van der Westhuizen family on foot for 10km. End your beginners Camino after your walk.

Each Camino supports small farms, rest houses, and families who host you with pride and heart.

Camino Itinerary (45km route )

Day 0: Arrival at De Stoep

Meet fellow pilgrims and settle into the farm stay. Arrive anytime after 4pm and before dark.

Day 1: De Stoep ➝ Sandvlei (14km)

The route follows flat farm roads along the Berg River, passing canola fields and seasonal crops, with the wheat fields at their fullest in September – a time when ‘miggies’ (gnats) are common, so bug spray is recommended. Isobel Hanekom, your host, has lovingly renovated a school built by her father-in-law, Melt Hanekom, in 1970, into comfortable pilgrim accommodation.

Day 2: Sandvlei ➝ Gouda (15km)

Stay with the Smuts family at The Workshop in Gouda. Dinner is whatever’s cooking, and the space is simple and welcoming.

Day 3: Gouda ➝ Tulbagh (16km)

The route winds past a network of streams, and after rain, you may need to walk barefoot through shallow crossings. The Tulbagh Valley is a glimpse through the platteland into a lush, sheltered basin.

Please note: The itinerary and rest house shops are subject to change without prior notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
