7-Day Cape Camino: Wine, Farm, Community, Countryside
7-Day Cape Camino: Wine, Farm, Community, Countryside
Walk 100km along farm roads and footpaths, take in sweeping valley views, and stay at family-run wine farms and in small towns. Some hosts offer warm conversation and shared meals, others simply give you space to unwind and soak up the stillness. Either way, the quiet generosity and community spirit of the region leave a lasting impression.

Camino Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival at De Stoep
Meet fellow pilgrims and settle into the farm stay. Arrive anytime after 4pm and before dark.
Day 1: De Stoep ➝ Sandvlei (14km)
The route follows flat farm roads along the Berg River, passing canola fields and seasonal crops, with the wheat fields at their fullest in September- a time when ‘miggies’ (gnats) are common, so bug spray is recommended. Isobel Hanekom, your host, has renovated a school built by her father-in-law, Melt Hanekom, in 1970, into comfortable pilgrim accommodation.
Day 2: Sandvlei ➝ Nuwefontein (16km)
The mostly flat gravel route passes through private farms. Nuwefontein Farm offers pilgrim accommodation in converted stable blocks with private and shared rooms.
Day 3: Nuwefontein ➝ Soutkloof (25km)
Long stretches of gravel road can feel repetitive, with little change in scenery. But the simplicity gives space to think, reflect, and settle into the rhythm of walking.
Day 4: Soutkloof ➝ Koringberg (10km)
An easy walking route on gravel roads, following the quiet course of the Berg River.
Day 5: Koringberg ➝ Wittewater (20km)
The route follows grassy walkways through open farmland, ending at a community-run stay. It’s often here that the heart of Cape Camino is most clearly felt. Your rest house is a home stay.
Day 6: Wittwater ➝ Goedverwacht (14km)
Goedverwacht, where the warmth of the community is palpable. This hidden gem thrives on its own produce, offering a true sense of self-sufficiency and hospitality. Your rest house is a home stay.
Day 7: Goedverwacht Rock Shelter (8km)
Spend the day walking to the rock shelter and learn about the indigenous history. End your Camino after the day's walk.
